Question ubuntu 10.04 slowdown


hi,
I am using ubuntu 10.04 from 4 months. There is no problem with it . But today when i use the system my system taking so much of time to open the files and folders. here is 4Gb of free swap are and a lot of memory for the folders. I restarted the total system but there is no use the system is again in slow... can you please help me ,how to speed up my system

There could be so many reasons, like unused programs are running, you can disable unwanted visual effects, you can refer to these links for more information:
