Question Ubuntu 10.04 LTS not closing down.

Several times now my PC with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS installed wont close down. I click on all the appropriate buttons but the system doesn't shut down. I have to press the on / off button on the computer to end my session. Could somebody tell me what the possible cause could be?

Thanks,
Gael.

So nothing happens or it shutdowns to a black screen?

If the latter, then it sounds like an APIC/ACPI issue. Older computer??

shutdown

Did it happen on a previous os? If so it might be an electrical problem with the mouse/keyboard/box.

That's interesting because I have just recently started having problems with the mouse ... it kind of intermittently sticks.
New mouse perhaps?

sticky mouse

Try cleaning it first, take the ball out and clean the recess.

Most mice now use optics instead of a ball.
