two mount points for same hardware?
 

I am running Mandrake 9.2

I rebooted yesterday and when linux came up, it said that "sda" was disabled and that "sdb" was created. It did this for my USB drive for my camera as well as my ZIP drive.

Now when KDE comes up I have two mount points for my ZIP and smart media reader. The second ones do not have anything there if you click on them, the first ones do.

Hope this makes sense. I can take a screen shot if needed.

I suggest that you check the device address on each of the four mount points. You do this by right clicking on the icon, click on properties, and click on devices. If you have duplicate devices then delete the extra icons. If the icons point to different devices then change the labels so that you know which one is which.

I only have "General" and "Permissions"

I even tried to just delete the ones that are nothing and it only gave me the option to: "Copy Here" "Link Here" or "Cancel" :(

KDE comes with four buttons across the top of the device properties window. They are General, Permissions, Device, and Meta Info. If Mandrake has "dumbed down" the device properties window to only General and Permissions I am not sure what to do.

You might be able to find the correct files in /home/user/.kde and delete them. But Fedora is enough different from Mandrake in the way that they set up the KDE desktop that I cannot rummage around in my .kde desktop and find the relevant files.

One thing that you could try is to log in as root and rename /home/user/.kde to something else, say /home/user/.kdeold. Then the next time that you log in as user KDE will create a brand new desktop. You will have lost all of your KDE settings and be back to the default settings. Hopefully you will also have lost all the duplicate icons. If you don't like the result of this step you could get your old desktop back by logging in as root, deleting /home/user/.kde, and renaming /home/user/.kdeold to /home/user/.kde.

well....hmmm.........that doesn't sound like a fun time :( I think I will either live with it until i feel more comfortable or look for another way.
