Two mencoder questions

greetings,

I use mencoder to make mp4 and avi files and my videos look good, but they still look a little soft as you look closer. How can I improve the sharpness?

my other question is, does mencoder have preset filters when making videos like ffmpeg does? for example ffmpeg has -vpre option.

I don't use mencoder directly, but I use AcidRip. It's a frontend to mencoder which gives you most, if not all, of mencoder options from a GUI. Worth giving it a try.

i would suggest using xvidenc/h264enc and having them build your mencoder commandline for you.

you mite want to check the manpage for theses options:

-vf pp=al:c,softskip,unsharp=l5x5:.25:c5x5:.25,harddup

cant remember what they do.

I've added these options in bold vcodec=mpeg4:mbd=1:trell:v4mv:vbitrate=3600:threads=3

It did improve the video quite a bit. I've seen many various options for lavc. And they're complicated and confusing as hell. I too don't understand those options you listed above

Anyway, I will experiment with all the possibilities and see the results.

Thanks to everyone who replied

PS: If anyone know some additional options for lavc and vf please list them. Thx in advance...
