Turn off Tooltips- Ubuntu

I've looked through the existing threads about turning off mouse-hover tooltips for other distros, but nothing's helped so far for my Ubuntu (Drake).

Maybe I'm just looking right past it, but is there a way to turn them off?

I have already gone into the gconf-editor and supposedly unchecked the apps>panel>global "enable tooltips" box, but nothing has changed. Ideas?

After having exited and gone back to try again the apps>panel>global "enable tooltips" box, it has taken effect. Guess I just needed to repeat myself.
