OK.. So I have searched and tried a ton of different options on RH 7.3

I just installed the most recent XFree on my machine, it changed the startup of the Machine from command line to GUI based. When I logon it goes to the crappy TWM.

I am trying to get it to logon on using GNOME or get back to the command line login.

I have done the following:
1. Created the .xinitrc in my home dir
2. Edited /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
3. run switchdesktop
4. looked at inittab

Here are the files.. take a look.. Please help me out.

I am thinking of just going back to the command line login to.. how do I do that?

change that last 5 to a 3 as the comments explain.

Any further answers on this?

All the answer tells you is how to stop boot up at 3 instead of 5. How do you stop it running TWM and run GNOME or KDE instead for ALL users? It can't be an individual user's .xinitrc.

I've got the same problem after updating the kernel and installing XFree86.
