Question Trying to setup an AD using Samba4 but I am getting errors

Hi everyone. Thank for looking at my virgin post, hopefully I have read the posting a question correctly, correctly.

I am trying to setup an AD using Samba4 following this guide: https://www.tecmint.com/install-samb...ectory-ubuntu/.

I have setup a working DNS server and DHCP server on this computer, along with Plex.

I did have Samba installed using myDomain.local following someone's suggestion but I had difficults joining computers (Win 10 Pro) to this domain. Upon more research I found out *.local is bad practise and so started again by running: apt purge samba krb5-user krb5-config winbind libpam-winbind libnss-winbind then: apt autoremove I also rebooted just in case.

I changed dhcpd.config, fwd.mydomain.lan.db, rev.mydomain.lan.db, and 50-cloud-init.yaml to reflect the change, and started again. I get the pink boxes where I input MYDOMAIN.LAN then 2 other pink boxes where I put mydomain.lan but after I just get this and I cannot contiune the guide:

root@media-server:~# apt install samba krb5-user krb5-config winbind libpam-winbind libnss-winbind -y

it looks liek a permission error prevented proper installation, which then prevents the services from starting.
firstly, this is now a dpkg problem.
this seems to be "des Pudels Kern":
Code:
Setting up winbind (2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.2) ...
mkdir: created directory '/var/lib/samba/winbindd_privileged'
changed group of '/var/lib/samba/winbindd_privileged' from root to winbindd_priv
mode of '/var/lib/samba/winbindd_privileged' changed from 0755 (rwxr-xr-x) to 0750 (rwxr-x---)
i know nothing about samba; maybe you need to move the whole directory and try again, maybe sth else.

Thanks for your reply it helped me look elsewhere for problems with winbindd.
I removed this folder /var/lib/samba/winbindd_privileged but it did not help.

However, I came across this code:
Quote:
sudo apt-get remove --purge samba-common
And it removed more files and folders. And so I can install Samba and co with no errors.

Yay me!

so this is solved now as per the problem from your op?
if yes, please mark it so.
if not, please clarify.
