Trying to set up Dual Heads in Fedora 11

The problem seems to be that even though I can set up a dual head desktop, one of my monitors drops into powersave mode (so only half of my desktop is visible). If I mirror, still, one monitor decides to go into powersave mode.

When I boot, both monitors turn on, when GRUB comes up, I still have 2 monitors. I have 2 (mirrored) monitors on up until I get to the X logon screen. Then one or the other decides to turn off. It is consistent. Though I cannot figure out which setting in the "Display" app is making the choice (left or right/ 1 or 0 -- 1 being my left, it is the deciding factor)

sadly i do not know the ATI setup for dual display, but you will need to edit the xorg.conf file to setup the dual screen as far as i know.

http://www.ssma.us/debian_media.html

that is WAY old, but the basics for the xorg.conf are there. hope it at least points you in the right direction.

Yes, thanks. Actually, I had read that I should try ati.com for a newer driver. Actually, I had read I should not try that and should stick with "distro-approved" drivers, but that was not working.

So I went to ati.com and downloaded the driver.tar for linux dated 10/22/2009 and used the aticonfig bin util to set up my dual heads. It worked... so far no remorse. :-)

glad it is working for you. yeah i wrote that when i was first getting into linux. i for one use the drivers from the manufactures more often then from the linux distro supplied.

i understand the reason for use the one supplied by the distro, but sometimes those drivers just dont work. the drivers from the card makers seem to always work. /shrug
