Hey Bruno Buys..Please Help, trying to make Netscape Navigator the DEFAULT webbrowser

I am using SuSe ver 8.2. I was able to install Netscape Navigator with no problem.

But...how do I make Netscape Navigator the DEFAULT web browser???

Currently I have to use Konqueror and I don't like it. I would rather use Netscape!

Thanks

Hey Bruno Buys..Please Help, trying to make Netscape Navigator the DEFAULT webbrowser

This seems like it would be pretty easy to do, but I just don't know how.

Could someone please help me?

Thanks in advance

It might help a little if you defined what you mean by "default web browser". Do you mean to say you want to open up html files locally in Netscape? What you want to look at are the file asociations attaching a given program to a file type. You can find KDE's list of associations in the KDE "control center" under "KDE conponents". I don't know the details about how to edit these, but whenever you click on a file, this is the table that gets consulted. Is this what you ment to ask?

You are using an older version of Linux. Do yourself a favor and upgrade to a newer version (since you can generally get them for free) and you will find that Konqueror is in fact now a web browser that should be good enough to forgo using anything else.

If you still need to make a new default browser, I'd still upgrade first so doing so will be easier for you. In my system, I go into KDE configuration, and in there I pick my default applications for filetypes or for general activity on my system.

Good luck!

This is how.

Go to your Suse Lizard button on your taskbar at the bottom of your desktop.
Click Control Center
Click KDE Components
Click File Associations
Go down to the text gategory
Click on html
On the right side of the window it should say Application preference order
And under that it should have Konqueror
Click add
At the top browse for the browser you want
Click okay or Apply
It'll update the system
Then remove Konqueror from the list
Once you think you're done
Click on the lizard button again and go to Run Command
Type in http://www.linuxquestions.org
And it should open it with the browser you just set in the file association list

Don't forget to tip your waitresses I'll be here all week.
