Trying to load Thunderbird - cannot locate file
 

Hi,

I just untarred Thunderbird into a directory, and when I go to run it in KDE, it comes up with a message

"Could't find the program Thunderbird"

Ive installed it nder /usr/local

any ideas?

did you install it, or just untar it?

Tried a couple of ways.

Extract using KDE, and untarring it in shell.

Is this wrong?

you can untar it a couple of different ways, that however is only part of the install process for a src file. after you unpack the tarball you should have a number of files, one of which will be a readme, or install instructions. usually after unpacking the tar ball it's as simple as

./configure

make

su
password
make install

Thunderbird doesn't need installing (AFAIK), at least 0.4 didn't. Anyway, try opening a console, changing to the directory and running Thunderbird that way to see any error messages. Sometimes just clicking the file in Konqueror spits out that error.
