Trying to install RHEL6 on my computer, which has already windows 7
Hi Team,
I want to install RHEL6 on my computer which has already got Win7. I have got another new SATA hard disk and want to install RHEL6 on it dedicate. Please help me with the steps in order to boot when the system starts up. ( I am not getting any notification when the system starts up to choose the operating system ) Thank you ! |
Post the make & model of your computer.
The first thing you need to do is get into the BIOS (generally use one of the Fn keys; often F2 or sometimes the 'Del' key) to get into the BIOS at boot time. Then you can set the system to boot off the CD/DVD drive. Put the RHEL6 install media in the CD/DVD drive and reboot, then follow the instructions. BTW, I hope you intend to pay RH for a subscription, otherwise you won't get any updates or support from them. If you want a free version with updates but no support, try Centos. |
Hi,
Thank you for the Quick reply Chris. I am using HP desktop, Core2duo, 4GB RAM. I am planning to install with the help of USB bootable copy of RHEL6, which i already installed, now i want to do dual boot with another hard disk. In this process, please help me what is the difference between sda,sdb and sdc.? Which one should i select ?? Thank you !! |
If that is a bootable install media, it should show a GUI tool to install if you select to not take any defaults (custom install iirc) and it'll show the disks and partition types.
IT should show NTFS I think for Win7, or the numeric code eg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disk_partitioning. Only you can decide which disk to use. BTW, I haven't had any MSWin OS for about 12 years, so we're getting into uncharted territory for me here ;) |
Thank you for the information Chris !!
