trying to install RH9 on a winxp machine

I was told that I could have RH9 installed on a seperate drive as the slave. I have a 60 gig (master) with XP pro on it, and a 20gig (slave) that I'm trying to put RH on. Ive installed it on there a few times trying to put the bootloader on the MBR, and on the first partition. Neither work, ive tried both bootloaders they fail. I get a "GIMP _ " message for gimp and a "LI " message for lilo. What could i possibly be doing wrong. Im sick of reinstalling it then having to run FIXMBR after it doesnt work. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have redhat 8.0 dual booted with win2k. Its not that hard. I cheated a little by using partition magic to partition the hard drive before installing. Just use the custom install, click remove linux partitions and make sure the root partition is large enough for the install. Like I said, it was a no brainer.

GRUB doesnt work it just hangs. ive removed the linux partitions over and over. ive reinstalled so many times with every option on there i just dont understand. i have an ide card with 2 drives on it but neither OS's are on those drives so i dont think they would affect this. just got a cdrw dvdrw, 2 drives one with xp one with linux. do i ahve to enable that 1024 thing it says during the install? change drive order? default OS?
