Trying to install ralink driver (rt2500) in Mepis...

Hello! I'm trying MEPIS for the second time after failing to get my wireless network going the first time around. The MEPIS computer is using the infamous DWL-G122 USB adapter/antenna from DLink.

I've read that recently, the ralink (rt2x00) project has had success in creating a driver that will allow that adapter to function properly in Linux. I went to a download site to get it...but unfortunately, instead of a ready-to-run type file, I got one of those Linux "tarballs" I keep seeing - a "tar.gz" file. I have no idea on how exactly to use them. I know that you have to do a recompile or something, but I don't know the procedure. Would someone be willing to tell me STEP BY STEP how to integrate this file/driver/whatever into MEPIS, so I can give it and my USB network adapter another shot?

THANKS!

If it's an rt2500, and if Mephis has maintained anything close to it's Debian roots, It's a piece of cake.
