Trying to install Puppy but keeps hanging up

Hello new to Linux. I have an older PC that had a bad virus and couldn;t do anything with so I decided to try and work with Linux. I did a complete wipe with Daricks Boot and Nuke program. I downloaded Puppy Linux 6.3 to a different computer and then burned image to disc. I put CD in drive changed BIOS to boot from CD and when I reboot computer I get Slacko screen. When I hit enter it gives the following message

Loading initrd.gz.......Ready

Decompressing Linux...Parsing ELF...No relocation needed ...done
Booting the kernel.
and thats were it stops working and just sits there. Can anybody please help me?

Maybe Puppy is not the way to go :)

As the last link shows, Puppy loads into the memory and 256 MB is not enough. For that you need something like AntiX.

if you had a virus then wiped your hard drive, you can install on your hard drive again. if ya didn't know that.

but dsl is another choice

How do you explain to me I put it on my old machine 92 mb of ram. You must have a swap file system made. and do a frugal install. make sure your not using the pae kernel. just copy the the stuff to a folder then run the grub config and then edit the grub2 to your folder like such.
I installed mine in to the drakeopup3 folder on my sdc2 partition.
then edit my /boot/grub.cfg

on my old laptop it is that has slackware in command line 92 mb of ram with grub 2 it is on my sda1 partition. running on it.
Now the old laptop takes a while to load and using flash will not happen ok. not with 92 mb of ram. now you can rebuild puppy with a
with other options that create an extra sfs file that keeps you from loading everything into ram.
if you plan on running old old stuff under 1ghz then look at an older puppy like puppy 4.0

a hard drive install works better than a fugal install of puppy on a low memory machine.

As they explain on the Puppy website, any installation that does not load into RAM is not secure, as it runs as root.

Distrowatch lists DSL as dormant.
