trying to install jre 1_5_0_06 have RPM where now

I have to have Java 1.5.0 or higher as a dependency for another program. I downloaded a RPM file from Sun. but I thought I had to install it with yast, but it won't find it. tryed to run from a CLI and got this:
home/geeko/jre-1_5_0_06-linux-i586-rpm.bin: not an rpm package (or package manifest):
what am I doing wrong? major newbie

+In yast, goto software. Goto file. Import. locate your package by browsing to it. This should work . . . .

It really depends on how you are trying to install it...

By the info you have posted, it seems that its a binary file...In which case you first have to check the file's permissions, whether it can be executed or not. The jre .bin I had downloaded did not have executable permissions so I had to chmod it by doing

$chmod +x jre_file.rpm.bin
and then I executed it as
./jre_file.rpm.bin..

If the file is just an rpm file..then yuo would install it as

$rpm -ivh jre_file.rpm

Open Konquerer, click on the rpm file, and a button will appear - "Install With Yast?" Click that. Sometimes it takes a minute. Sun also has instructions where you got the file. You might want to read those. In MS Windows you just click and it works, most of the time. Everything works pretty much the same in Windows. In linux you read the instructions for everything.
