I am very new to Linux world, and trying to install Heartbeat on RHEL5 to achive MQ HA active/passive, as per the docmentaion, once the two systems (node1 and node2) are connected we need to test

On ha1 (receiver), type:

cat < /dev/ttyS0
On ha2 (sender) type:

echo "Serial Connection test" > /dev/ttyS0

I am not getting any response in either case. But I can ping the two boxes from each other on private network and on regular ip. When I check with my admin he said the boxes are not connected via serial port. Can I install Heartbeat in this case? if so what should i put in ha.cf file

serial /dev/ttyS0

When I red the documentation, it talks about only serial connection. Please help me out.

My two cents - truly - Did you try Null cable ?
