trying to install

I'm trying to install Linux mandrake 7.0 on an older computer to be a dumb terminal. There is no operating system currently on the computer and when I try to install is shows an error report telling me there are no partitions. This is my first experince with linux and the first time i've tried installing an os. So, what do I need to do?

Mandrake 7 That's ancient! You really should get the latest version (2005LE which is 10.2) from www.mandrivalinux.com. It has a nice GUI partitioning program during the install and the option of automatically partitoning. Anyway if you still want to use 7 I'm pretty sure it had a GUI partitioning program during the install as well.

I know, but it's for my dad. He's using an old gateway running win95 and refuses to shell out money for a new computer since his "works". So I bought one from a thrift store that would be better then what he has now and I just happened to have a mandrake7 that I had never tried. He just needs it for writing text anyway.

Well Mandriva 2005LE is a free download and it should work on that old hardware. Anyway I'm sure 7 had the partitioning program, just start up the install and you'll soon get to it.
