Trying to get my scanner to work in Redhat 9?

Hello All, whenever I open xsane to try and configure my scanner
the programme tells me it cannot be found, then it gives me six
reasons why this is so. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot
xsane in simple terms. Is there another method of trying to
configure a scanner in Redhat 9? I am still new so please be
patient with me. Regards Mike C.

The first thing I would do is to see if the scanner is supported by the SANE-library here. Most parallel port models aren't, USB models generally are.

Hello Baldrick65, I checked as you said, there appears to be
no match, I'm using a Primax Electronics Visioneer 4400 Scanner,
it has always provided quite a good service in windows. Do you
know of another way to use this equipment with Linux o/s RH9.
Appreciate any suggestions. Regards Mike C.

The problem with most scanners is that manufacturers refuse to release specifications so drivers for Linux can't be made. All I can suggest is to get one with Linux support or keep checking that page to see if any further developments occur.
