Trying to establish an internet connection using the Tails distro for the first time
Hello,
I'm trying to use the Tails distro for the first time. It's a distro that tries to preserve anonymity for the user.
I placed the Tails 1.4 DVD disc that I burned into the optical drive in my laptop and booted into it. Then I tried to start the Tor browser and an error message comes up in the middle of the browser window saying "The proxy server is refusing connections."
Then I hovered my pointer over the icon in the system tray that looks like two PC monitors and keyboards overlapping eachother. There is a message that comes up that says "No network connection". So this is the network connection icon.
When I right click on this icon it gives a drop-down menu of three items to select: "wired network" (in black letters), "disconnected" (in gray letters), and "VPN connections" (in black letters with an arrow pointing to the right).
When I hover my pointer over the "VPN connections" selection it brings down yet another drop-down menu giving the following options to select: "configure VPN" (in black letters) and "Disconnect VPN" (in gray letters).
The black letters mean that that is something that I can currently select and the gray letters mean that that is something that I can't select currently.
I'm just trying to figure out how to establish a network connection and could use some help as I have no idea because I've never used this distro before.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
