Trying to connect Iomega Super DVDRW to Ubuntu 8.04

I have an Iomega Super DVD, P/N 31367200, Model DVDRW16xUSB.

When connected to my Ubuntu 8.04 computer, the green light comes on, the drawer functions properly, the computer 'sees' the DVDRW but it is unable to see any media.

When I go to Places > Computer the Computer – File browser opens and I see the icon for my Iomega but when I click on it, all I get is this message:-

"Unable to mount location"
"No media in drive"

I have tried this with a couple of CD's and DVD's (which I know work) and also tried on my Win XP machine, with the same result.

I would appreciate it if you would tell me what I might be doing wrong.

Also, there is a 'Key Lock' slot on the back of my Super DVD for which I do not have a key. Whether this has any relevance, I have no idea.

TIA.

If it happens on Win as well, it must be a hardware issue. As a guess, I'd say you need to find the key and unlock it (are you saying it has a physical keyhole, like the keyhole in a door, or is it a slot for some sort of electronic card?).

What happens if you try to mount /dev/cdrom or /dev/scd0? Or maybe that should be /dev/scd1, if you have an internal optical drive too.
