Trying to change temp directory for Cold Fusion installation.

Does anybody know how to change the temp directory in RedHat 7.3. I'm trying to install the demo for ColdFusion but it stops the install before it starts saying I don't have enough room in the current directory. It will try to install from /root in the tmp folder, but it complains that it too doesn't have enough room. It then proceeds to suggest that I change my tmp directory and gives instructions to change the directory that do not appear to work for me. I need help. Oh, btw, when I move the install file into a folder that has plenty of room, I still get the same error.

Thanks.
