Truly Bizzare....
 

This is truly bizzare...but maybe it makes complete sense to the linux guru's out there. Sorry for the massive post but this has got me thoroughly confused

I'm using Redhat 7.2 and I have 2 Network Cards in my computer, I used to only have one and a usb adapter but I changed it because setting up a usb network adapter is damn near impossible.

Anyway...I eventually got it set up so I could connect to my ADSL in linux...using Poaring Penguin PPPOE. I connected once and downloaded the new netscape and all was cool. Anyway...I then went back to windows and noticed that the sound wasn't working properly so I stuffed around with it, eventually getting it working by reinstalling the drivers.

Later on I'm back in linux, try to connect to the net and I was getting timeout errors. So I checked out the Network Configuration and now neither of my network cards are working, something like "Network Adapter cannot be initialized".

I gave up and went back to windows again...only to find the sound is stuffed again. So basically I've gone from working Not at all...to Awesomely...and then to working worse than before.

ifconfig shows lo, but no eth devices, and I can't ifconfig eth0 up, it says it cannot find the device.

Any help would be great, I've got no clue at all at the moment.

check if all cards are being detected by the BIOS.(sound & LAN cards).
next use windows & configure the sound card & LAN cards, it should be a whole lot easier with windows.
If all is well user the device manager to list down the IRQ's,I/O range etc. then boot into linux & try configuring the same.

all shold work fine

unless you made any hardware or bios changes, the configuration under linux should not have affected the sound under windows in any way. one possibility that comes to mind is if you have an integrated sound/network card, or if either is integrated into the mb.
