I have come across Linpus and problems before. I believe it is text only and has no gui. Have a look at Larko's Blog on linpus http://larko.wordpress.com/tag/linpus/. It seems to be a thing which is especially pushed in Finland (?) by verkkokauppa.com
I would advise you to get a different distro.

I don't know the commands either because I use a gui.
Either buy a CD (It will only cost a few $ and come quicker) or get a free CD from Ubuntu (Free - but it will take longer to come)(several weeks?) from https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

You can download ubuntu, burn it to a cd as an image and install it

wget -c <insertubuntumirrorhere>
cdrecord -v -pad speed=1 dev=0,0,0 ubuntuXXXX.iso
I originally assumed that he had access to another computer, but this would work good too

No , I'm sorry, you can't just put the iso on a CD (copy it). You need to "burn the iso" that is you need to create a special bootable disk.Have a look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Bu...9%7C%28burn%29

Good. When you have burnt the iso to a cd, and made sure that the BIOS is set to boot from the CD-Rom first - just start the machine and be ready to answer some questions.
