Exclamation Trouble with updating in FC3 and setting up GCC

I am having trouble with the update program that comes with FC3... everytime I start it up it hangs while "fetching RPM header". Also, I was told by another member that using the command "yum install gcc" would install gcc for me, and it worked... the first time. I reinstalled FC3 because I was trying out some other distros before, and now it wont work. Let me know if you need more info/specs. Thanks for helping.
