Trouble with Google Earth
 

I downloaded Google Earth (for Linux, of corse!) and installed it in the terminal using the code:
wget http://dl.google.com/earth/GE4/GoogleEarthLinux.bin
sh GoogleEarthLinux.bin
It completed setup and all that and told me to type "googleearth" to run it. When I type it in, I get this:
We apologize for the inconvenience, but Google Earth has crashed.
This is a bug in the program, and should never happen under normal
circumstances. A bug report and debugging data are now being written
to this text file:

/home/charley/.googleearth/crashlogs/crashlog-C0631EE6.txt

This bug report will be sent to Google automatically next time you run

us correct problems without bothering you further. If you would rather
this info not be transmitted, please delete the above file before running
the program again. If you want bug reports to NEVER be sent, remove the
above 'crashlogs' directory's read/write permissions.
I went to the folder it told me but I didn't see anything about crashlogs. What do I do?

You mentioned absolutely nothing about your system.

You might get someone with plenty of time on his hands (especially a n00b) to help you, but the guys who really know their stuff are going to completely ignore your thread.

So before I go on and read this whole "Smart Question Manual, there is nobody who has experienced this problem with Google Earth before?

Works fine for me.

Google Earth is beta software, and it lists it's requirements. I don't meet them all, it crashes a lot, but nothing in my crashlog.

Google Earth worked for me.

Chinaman is right. We need more specific information. You can't just say "it doesn't work" and expect an answer.

How old is your hardware? What specification is it? What distro/DE are you running? Do you have any 3D video drivers installed? If so, what type?

You would do well to read the link Chinaman posted.

Mine works brilliantly (i love it, spent a while just watching the tour, and adding places i've been to)

That being said, without the Nvidia drivers, it would start but show a black screen, make sure you have your graphics drivers installed (needs redoing after every kernel upgrade normally).

Definately make sure your graphics are as up to snuff as possible.

It runs ok on my laptop (some corruption, easily fixed by minimizing then maximizing the app), but since I only have a 1.3 cerleron and 256mb ram, with 8mb shared with the i830 graphics, I'm rather pleased...

Somebody have some advice how to uninstall Google Earth, because this version brings me right back to the MS Windows age of crash after crash. Miss the Blue screen a bit.....

If you go into the folder where you installed the program (for me it was ~/google-earth) there should be a little uninstall script in there. I've never used the uninstall script, but I took a brief look at it and it seems like it would work on my system. I would begin there.

I actually used that uninstall (GE did not run well on one machine that didn't have the most recent video card). It worked fine.

I too want to remove this app from my Linux box and do see the "uninstall" script however I get this error...

Any suggestions? :scratch:

GoogleEarth has me stynied
 

Hi! I'm Graham123. I'm Canadian and as green as grass. Or, you can color me dumb.

I just installed GoogleEarthLinux. Everything seemed to go well.

Now I've got this shiny new icon. Gotta push that one, eh!

Click, open, graphics start appearing. dialog boxs say "initializing" - good!

Hint for the day come up - good!

Then something about "loading my places", still lookin' good.

Then the whole shebang disappears.

Obviously something is wrong. Anybody know what??
