Trouble viewing .wmv files with Kafine

Using Suse 9.1. Downloaded a .wmv file(uses Windows Media). Dowloaded codecs to view Win Media,Real player, etc. Trouble is cannot install codecs to /usr/lib/win32 file. Permission is denied. Opened shell command , entered su to get to root , but cannot remember how to use chmod to change permissions or using root in a GUI . Suse only takes me to YaST2 when loggingin as a root. Help, as I am getting rusty a Linux. Too much Windows !
