CDRW drive should mount as any CDROM drive. Could you try again and note down the error message? Please also provide the method (commands) you use to mount it.

you can't take a disk out when it's mounted.
you have to umount, change the disk, then mount.
unless you use supermount.

the command is umount, and not unmount (notice the lacking 'n'). You umount a disk by
umount /mnt/cdrom {or whatever the mountpoint is)

Dude - I would encourage you to provide more details about what exactly it is that you're doing, and what exactly the errors are that you receive. I think it's difficult for anybody to offer meaningful advice if you say things like "I got an error message but don't remember what it was" and so forth. I'd say that the LQ community is more than willing to go out of its way to try to be helpful, but the only way anybody can help is if you give them a sufficiently detailed description to permit them to understand the issue. -- J.W.

is there any way to automatically mount/unmount CD-ROm as you turn on/off the PC (log in/out linux, I have dual boot into win95 or Slack 7.1).
I have got a feeling that I must modify my /etc/fstab file somehow, but don't know how! hehehe

regards

change the fstab line entry
noauto
to
auto

if you want the cdrom to eject when your are shutting down,
and an
eject
statement near the end of your shutdown script.
