Trouble installing opennms on Fedora core 3

Arhhhhhhhhhhh. hi there thi sis driving me insane.

I am new to Linux, have a fair bit of Unix knowledge though. I am trying to set-up opennms as I have heard it rocks.

Having installed postgres 8.x and rrdtool I get the error saying that rrdtool is not present. Looking at the forums I have tried yum install opn the rpm only to get the error:

missing dep: rrdtool for pkg opennms

Please help as I am going mad.

Many thanks

Chris G

FC3 is kind of old now.

How did you install rrdtool? From a repository through Yum, or did you download the rpm separately?

You may need to run ldconfig after installing from source.

Guys,
The OpenNMS training was very good. But the documentation is in hard back form. However there is a VMware image of OpenNMS on source forge that you can run on your laptop either linux or windoz. See the last line of the page http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...?group_id=4141
It takes a lot of room to un-tar the file but is easy to configure.
You’ll need the VMware player download of course.

Once you untar the file there are directions to modify the /opt/opennms/etc/snmpconfig & discovery something or else.

As for a full blown install follow the directions on the web.
http://www.opennms.org/documentation...lUnStable.html

CentOS4 and install Postgresql . I use CentOS4 as patching is free.
CentOS http://isoredirect.centos.org/centos/4/isos/i386/

JAVA JDK 6u1 which is the SE package If you are doing rpm build get jdk-6u1-linux-i586-rpm.bin
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp

Tomcat
http://tomcat.apache.org/download-60.cgi#6.0.10
get the core tar.gz file apache-tomcat-6.0.10.tar
un-tar it in the /var/usr directory and link it to /opt/tomcat ln –s /opt/tomcat Then /opt/tomcat/bin/start.sh to start it.

RRDTOOL
http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/packages/rrdtool/
use wget and the rrdtool rpm, perl rrdtool rpm, php rrdtool rpm, rrdtool devel rpm
I go to the site and copy the rpm link location then wget paste the link.
rpm –Uhv * to install all the files

OpenNMS
http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...?group_id=4141
get the unstable version for the distro you use. I use centos 4 as I can get patches for free.
CentOS http://isoredirect.centos.org/centos/4/isos/i386/

Call or e-mail if you need help.

Ronnie
