Trouble installing Firefox

Has anyone had trouble installing firefox web browser? I have YDL 4.0 running on my 12" powerbook. I have downloaded the install files extracted them through the terminal gone to the appropriate directory and run firefox-installer. However I continually get a message:

./firefox-installer: line 55: ./firefox-installer-bin: cannot execute binary file

I have changed permissions for execution for all users but this has had no effect

When I try installing through the GUI and click on firefox-installer icon nothing happens

Not sure where to go from here. Help would be appreciated.

i dont really know what to say.. maybe a good start is, to see if your libraries are compatible. on the firefox site under sys requirements, i found these for the linux req'd:
Linux kernel - 2.2.14 or higher with the following libraries or packages:
* glibc 2.3.2 or higher
* XFree86-3.3.6 or higher
* gtk+2.0 or higher
* fontconfig (also known as xft)
* libstdc++5

you have all this/these or > versions?

you might want to also watch the recent thread in 'forums > software'.. someone is also having problems installing/running firefox.
did you download this file "firefox-1.0.installer.tar.gz"?
extract the file and "cd" into the directory.. from there you should just be able to type "./firefox-installer" and it should be simple from there.. i thought the file was called firefox-installer not the one you mentioned..? i dunno, give this a shot

I can't work it out, that is exactly what I have been doing, after I extract the appropriate file, cd to the appropriate dir. then type ./firefox-installer

that's when I get the above message

weird
