Trouble in choosing the right Linux Distributor

 I need help in choosing the right Linux Distributor. I am planning to buy Fedora Core 5 but doubtful whether it will work with my computer.

The following are my computer settings.Based on this please tell me whether fedora core 5 will work or not
PentiumII
1. 350MGHZ speed
2. 256 MB Memory Ram
3. 10GB Harddisk space

it will work, but fancy desktops like gnome and KDE will be vrey slow on an old cpu like that. try using fluxbox or something else more lightweight and you should be ok.

you also posted this is the wrong forum, please read the forum descriptions before posting to them.

Will it be slow because of the graphics? I'm going to use this PC only for sending e-mails, chatting etc. Will it still be slow?
Or is there any other Linux Distributor where gnome will work better?

Slow using a full-up Desktop such as Gnome or KDE--because of all the processing and graphics to make it user-friendly.

Why buy Fedora??---It is free.

I would hazard a guess at just buying some burnt cd's as opposed to downloading.

Is Xubuntu,Ebuntu 6.06 the same? I saw the minimum system requirements and found that it would work with my computer. The screenshots were amazing.

Go to the Ubuntu site.....

I thought it was
Ubuntu--Gnome desktop
Kubuntu--KDE desktop
Xubuntu--XFCE desktop
Edubuntu--educational distro--not sure what is different

I suspect they are all the same at some lower level.
