Hi,

welcome to LQ.

To get hardware acceleration you'll need to be using the correct drivers (kernel and X11) for your hardware (assuming your hardware has this capability). To determine what the correct drivers are, we need to know exactly what video chip you have. The output of the following will provide that information.
Code:
lspci | grep -i vga

Thanks for your reply evo2

here is the output

dad@dad-Aspire-M5700:~$ lspci | grep -i vga
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT 220] (rev a2)

any help would be appreciated - thanks

Hi,

looks like you need the proprietary drivers from nvidia. See for example https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Bi...erHowto/Nvidia

Let us know if you have any problems.

well, that looks right,,
I was almost hoping you had them installed but using 'something' else

guess I shall have to look at what the minimum requirements for xbmc are.

Hi,

your glxinfo output and the screenshot you posted shows that although you already have the nvidia driver installed. I wonder how many frames per second you get with glxgears. Eg
Code:
glxgears -info
(this is not really a benchmark but the output can be informative).

I also noticed in the screenshot that is a newer driver version available. It might be worth checking if upgrading the driver helps.

Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be

I am running xbmc on a 86 base processor computer with 1GB of ram and intel video chip. No problem actually xbmclive is base on a light weight version of Ubuntu. I also run xbmc in a first generation kindle fire and in a galaxy note II smart phone. So I dont think the requirements are that much.
Erros I get sometimes is because the video script for the addon I am trying to use is empty for lack of updates.
Good luck to you

Hi,

60 fps seems quite slow.

http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=supported_hardware#Desktop states "NVIDIA GeForce 6-Series and newer supported". I checked online a little and it seems nvida refers to their card series as multiples of 100... so presumably yours is a 200 series. I wonder if the xbmc page is referring to the 600 series. If so that would seem to indicate that your video chip is not up to the job.

nah, 60 fps is fine
it syncs to monitor

details on how to 'fix' it
( basically turn off vblank )

the Nvidia numbers did a big skip after 9
the GT200 is later than the 6 series

the 6 was 2004
