trouble faxing
I just recently added a RH9 partition to my Win98 Dell, so now I have a dual boot system. I am tryinig to learn how to fax. I have a fax modem installed on the machine, and it works under Win98. But I'm having some trouble with faxing from Linux.
I want to fax a one-line document called faxtest.ps. Near as I can tell, efax and efix came as part of my RH9 distro. So in a terminal window, I type fax send xxx-xxxx faxtest.ps I get this error message: /usr/bin/efax: Thu Nov 13 20:57:40 2003 efax v 0.9 Copyright 1999 Ed Casas efax: 57:40 compiled Jan 24 2003 18:39:23 efax: 57:40 TIFF version 4.2 file (little-endian) efax: 57:40 TIFF directory at 8 with 20 tags, last image. efax: 57:40 page 1 : faxtest.ps.001 + 338 : 1728x2156 @ 204x196 dpi TIFF/FAX efax: 57:40 argv[0]=/usr/bin/efax efax: 57:40 argv[1]=-v efax: 57:40 argv[2]=ewin efax: 57:40 argv[3]=-v efax: 57:40 argv[4]=chewmainrxtf efax: 57:40 argv[5]=-d/dev/modem efax: 57:40 argv[6]=-x efax: 57:40 argv[7]=/var/lock/LCK..modem efax: 57:40 argv[8]=-iZ efax: 57:40 argv[9]=-i&FE&D2S7=120 efax: 57:40 argv[10]=-i&C0 efax: 57:40 argv[11]=-iM1L0 efax: 57:40 argv[12]=-l efax: 57:40 argv[13]=+0 000 000 0000 efax: 57:40 argv[14]=-kZ efax: 57:40 argv[15]=-h efax: 57:40 argv[16]=2003/11/13 20:57 +0 000 000 0000 from a Red Hat Linux system p. %d/%d efax: 57:40 argv[17]=-t efax: 57:40 argv[18]=T763-5553 efax: 57:40 argv[19]=faxtest.ps.001 efax: 57:40 Error: can't open pre-lock file /var/lock/TMP..03587: Permission denied efax: 57:40 failed -> faxtest.ps.001 efax: 57:40 done, returning 2 (unrecoverable error) What am I doing wrong? Thanks. |

Some additional info, indicating there may be some other problems with my modem setup. I don't know what it means, but I typed statserial and got this:
statserial: can't open device `/dev/ttyS1': Permission denied And then I tried running KPPP (whatever that is), and when I clicked on query modem, I got "Unable to open modem" in the message box, and "Opener: received OpenDevice error opening modem device ! Opener: received RemoveLock" in the terminal window. |
