Trouble booting linux up after Xconfigurator
Recently my linux system had been restarted by someone while it was on. This seemed to screw everything up... the screen flickered for about 5 minutes, then there was a message saying:
According to var/run/gdm.pid, gdm was already running (1073819204), but seems to have been murdered mysteriously. INIT: Id "x" respawning to fast: disabled for 5 minutes I was advised that X wasn't running and it might need to be reconfigured, which I did with Xconfigurator. Now when I boot linux from my Lilo boot, it asks me what startlevel, I know 3 for non GUI and 5 for the graphical interface, but neither worked, in fact I entered number 0-5 and kept getting the same response: no more processes in this runlevel. In addition at the Lilo boot I also tried: Linux 3 and Linux 5 to no avail. Pleeeaaasee help Thanks ---Mike |
