I am new to Linux and I tryed to load it onto one of my hard drives but when I tryed to reboot my pc it said no operating system found. so stupidly I tryed to uninstall the hard drive so it would load windows but now i'm getting a GRUB error message is there any way i can boot linux with the cd and tell it to boot the hard drive with windows on it?
Then it sounds like you just want to restore the bootloader onto the primary drive. Using the XP intall CD's Recovery Console, running the command "fixmbr" should make the machine boot into XP again.
When your computer boots, you get a screen (usually black with white print) and if you watch you will see at the bottom a message saying something like 'press Delete key to enter setup'. It may not be Delete, it could be F2 or any of a number of other keys. Hit the key and you should go into the BIOS and there look for a way to set boot priority, CDRom first. That way you can boot from your XP CD.
When I say "on your bios" I mean that you need to reboot your computer, in the first screen should say anything like "press Del to enter setup" or "press F10/F12 to enter setup" it depends on your computer vendor.
Look in to the section boot options or something like that.
Firstly: I took the liberty to rename your thread to give
it a title that carries some meaning. "I need help" really
means nothing; pretty much everyone posting here (apart from
the odd news post and the not so infrequent spammer) needs
help with something - that's why they're posting. So that
title isn't much good.
Secondly: instead of poking about blindly - why don't you
tell us what make and model your computer is? That way you
may get some more targeted support.
