GRUB keeps its configuration file in /boot/grub---if you delete the linux partition containing /boot, then GRUB cannot operate.

Do you mean it will not boot from CD? Did it previously?

If you are installing another version of Linux, it willl take care of GRUB as part of the installation.

If you delete a linux partition from where you normally boot than that is what you get.
Most computer allow you to put a cd in cd drive when it wakes up pushing the button by the cd drive.
And than you can insert a cd in the drive.
Also be sure that you're cd drive is the first boot device .
Check you're BIOS settings if the cd will not boot

as stated by ron.. make sure that your bios allows you to boot from cd.
then put your windows cd in & reboot, go to the recovery console and type fixmbr and press enter
reboot

I am sitting in front of a 6-year-old Athlon system which won't recognize a USB keyboard on startup. It therefore has two keyboards: My newer USB + an ancient MS keyboard stuck under the monitor---only used if I need to configure th BIOS or select something in the GRUB menu. (Hey, Microsoft products are good for something.... )
