tried startx but error, no installed x-server came up

i installed suse 9.1 recently but found character interface on typing startx the following error came up

"you didnot install any x-server \(e.g. XF86_SVGA)!
please install at least one server to start X"

what is this X-server and how do i install it without installing linux all over again ???

SuSE 9.1 installs with a gui by default, with a KDE desktop. If you unchecked both KDE and Gnome systems when you installed there is no xserver installed. Install either KDE or Gnome from the install CD/DVD.
