Transferring settings from Ubuntu 14.04 to Ubuntu 15.10 while updating

Hello everyone,

Another new user question. I am considering updating Ubuntu from 14.04 to 15.10. When I update do I have to re-install drivers for display adapter and do all the programs now installed on 14.04 work in 15.10?

Regards,

Kimmo

No, everything should "just work". That's what the distros work hard to ensure.
It's even possible to have things just work if you do a complete re-install rather than an upgrade.

But, if radeon/ati . All bets are off, no?

Besides, I personally think you will be shooting your self in the foot upgrading from LTS release to a 6 month supported release that is only for experienced knowledgeable Ubuntu testers.

Which from your post. Does not sound like you are one of those people.h

If 14.04 is working, there is no reason to update to 15.10 as it is a short term support release. Better off wating until April of next year when the new LTS is released.

No.
Someone, somewhere will hit problems with every upgrade. Certainly not a reason to upgrade, else we all never would.

I had some issues with Radeon regressions on earler kernels, but no oops's. Mainly affected coming out of hibernation.
