How are you trying to transfer the data? over a network or do you have the drive in a usb caddie and what OS systems are they

Well, if you have the data on an external disk and want to copy to an internal disk then just plug it in and copy the data.

Linux can read almost any file-system, so it is really simple as that: Plug in the drive and copy your data.
If you have a question or problem doing that it would help if you ask the question or tell us your problem. This community is knowledgeable, but we still aren't mindreaders.

You should be able to find the win laptop using nautilus just go to network, Then browse the network to find machine, and select the machine. The win machine must have file sharing enabled.

Do as Tobi said
