As the mightiest river cannot carve a great chasm from granite in a day, so too will your question take time. You must learn patience, and to Google, binarybasic.
Now that the
Kung Fu reference is out of the way, I can tell you that your problem is most likely one of configuration, not of drivers.
This is some of what I found by Googling:
http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/Laptop-HOWTO-6.html
http://personal.eunet.fi/pp/tiny/inspiron/inspiron.htm
http://www.cnbc.cmu.edu/~masmith/i3800/
http://www.dooglio.net/dell_inspiron_3800.html
at
http://www.math.ucla.edu/~jimc/inspir3800.html, I found:
Quote:
Pointing devices: Work in 2 button mode. See http://www.compass.com/synaptics Except it's an Alps combined touchpad and force stick. The author has begun to add support for this combination to his utility package (version 3.1), but not a lot is implemented yet. For X setup, put these in the Pointer section of /etc/XF86Config or /var/X11R6/lib/XF86Config:
Pointer
Protocol "PS/2"
Device "/dev/psaux"
Emulate3Buttons
Emulate3Timeout 50
EndSection
There is supposed to be a program to set the parameters of the Alps touchpad and stick...

I'm using a Latitude C810, which also has the Trackpad and Stick mouse. They both work fine under the P/S2 protocol.
This should at least point you in the right direction.
Good Luck!
