Tracing the changes in system between two time

My printer scanner is works sometime while it didn't work other time. Is there is a way to find out what makes it work, like saving the whole system configuration at each instance and then checking the difference between the two.

No, I think we have to debug the situation when it doesn't work.
Please provide some initial troubleshooting information.
