totally confused, please help
I just installed RH 7.3 on a old p1 133. It took 2 hours to install. *gasp!* I'm using a Belkin PCI Card. (installed as REaltek)
Anyway, Everything went smoothly. I can log in and what not. I've got 3 others windows based pc's running on a linksys 4 port router. using DHCP The linux machine picked up the ip address. I can ping other pc's on my network. I can ping the router address itself too. But when i use netscape to get into the router i get a error msg. "TCP Error: Network unreachable" When I ping a outside address i get unknown host. I checked the /etc/resolv.conf and the dns servers are fine. when I type /sbin/ifconfig it shows the ethernet card seems to show the right info. I tried to add a default gateway but i get another error.(SIOCADDRT: Network is unreachable) What am I doing wrong? I checked to see if the nic i have supports linux and I've read a review where it did. But I went to their support site and they didn't offer a option linux driver :( Can someone please help me... I'm getting that burning urge to toss the machine out the window. 2 day old linux uber :newbie: |
I think what you need to do is add all the computers in your network to your /etc/hosts file. the syntax is:
<ip address> hostname.domain.name hostname ie: 24.84.255.105 badcomputer.badcomputer.no-ip.com badcomputer Just a guess though.... |
oops, nm

Omg, there is a god. I got it to work finally. YAY! There is a god out there.
Instead of rh i just installed mandrake 8.2 instead. Works great. And i love linux. What a headache but it's well worth it. My whole problem was with the hostname and domain name bs... lots of reading from you gurus got me through it. I just want to say a big THANKS! |
