Total NooB needs SuSE Driver assistance
Hi there, This is my first time with Linux and I decided to break my cherry by using Suse. All is going great except for the single most important thing.
Modem drivers.
Now ive managed to find several links for the ESS ES56t-PI Modem, however all of them dont work. The only other driver i found was modem drivers.org and I cant get it to install for love nor money, is this because I have no idea what im doing or is it just not right for suse, i dont know
But please, god can anyone help me! I love linux platforms now, im addicted but I need the net to transfer from Broken Windows

Check out LinModem.org and it's Support page They can help you find out what chipset your modem uses and then get you the right driver.
Here is a site with a driver for your modem: Linmodem Resources
And here is one with install instructions: LinModem howto

hi there, thanks very much for the reply, sadly im having alot of dificulty with the driver and the install page, i get about halfway down the intallation list then it dies, well, doesent die it more or less dont like the commands i put in, ive tried another file that does sh mdminstall or something like that, but it comes up with errors and doesent work,
im at a loss with this, and am having alot of trouble because i do not understand things (yes, n00b i know) ive had experience using a little of linus but none installing things or setting up things.
Some additional information that might help
SuSE 9.2 Personal
KDE 3.3
------
ill try the modem scan utility on linmodems however im having to reboot my system each time to access suse, so its getting a wee bit frustrating.. hopefully perseverance will work...
does anyone know a modem that is nativley supported in both windows xp and suse 9.2?? i dont really want to buy a new modem but its a last resort
