i am new to linux as well but from the books ive been reading and the trial and error ive donw. It seems that to install things in linux it need to be done in the terminal... i use suse 9.0 . i installed crossover yesterday. you just download the file RPM or GZ or whatever. and decompress it and install it via command line

Hi,
Glad to have you join the Linux Community.
1.Try installing a variaty of Linux distros.
2.For reading go to www.tldp.org all the reading
and info you can stand.
3. when you post try to ask 1 specific question.

as far as installing programs, which program do
you what to install first?

Most linux distro websites have a small tutorial for installing programs. For instance here is slackware's website for installing packages : http://slackware.com/config/packages.php
