I am not sure about perl but mysql has an excellent web site that has the downloads available in various formats. Their tech support is also the best I have ever seen. I just completed working with one of their individuals for a couple of days getting my mysql up and going. It was file permissions so pay attention in the docs when it talks about setting up the correct file permissions. That web site is www.mysql.com. They have excellent docs to walk you through the install. Just do better than I did and read them THOROUGHLY.
