toshiba r500 problem with fedora9

Hi, I'm totally newbie to linux, but managed to install fedora9 from usb memory stick together with vista on my fujistsu siemens amilo with no problems, but I can't do it on toshiba r500, it just doesn't boot, all i get is kernel panic - cannot open root device <NULL> or unknown block, not syncing: unable to mount root fs on uknown-block (104,1). Just managed to boot it with gujin from partition 5 /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-1. so, what do I need to do to boot it from bootloader - it shows as linux below vista ? I'm really fed up with this vista crap.

what it sounds like to me is that you're using the same usb pen drive that you did for your fujitsu to attempt an install/boot on the toshiba? Perhaps what could be happening is a) the fujistu had an IDE hard drive and your toshiba has a SATA/SCSI drive, or b) you had more than one hard drive in either of them. Either way, the error that you have described is caused by the boot loader not being able to find the drive specified in it's config file. It looks like you're using GRUB? Take a look at the bootloader config and try changing the boot device. If it currently is /dev/hda, then try /dev/sda, or vice-versa. Hope that helps!
