Toshiba PCX1100U USB Cable Modem + Redhat 9

Alright, here's the problem.

First off, I'm a newbie so go easy.

I've been useing Mandrake 8.2, which detected the Cable Modem as a network card and set itself up flawlessly.
I then recently decided to upgrade to Mandrake 9.1, it detected my USB Modem, but it was under Other/Unknown Devices.
Being fed up with trying to get it to work under Mandrake 9.1, I reformated the partition and installed Red Hat 9.

Redhat 9 autodetected the modem and automaticaly set up CDCEther as the module it uses. I then set up an ethernet connection useing that device and set it to automatically obtain IP info.

After doing this I tried to activate the connection. The light on the modem blinks (meaning its sending data), but shortly after it times out and says could not obtain IP address.

I also have WinXP loaded on this machine and the modem works fine.

Follow carefully the trobleshooting howto. Obey the kernel configuration (you musto to, for all work!) and don't give up. I had the same problem... First when i tried to recompile de kernel i lost everything, then i installed redhat again (over ftp!) and started again. fixed all kernel stuff and worked. Don't forget to remove usb module from kernel, its very important!!! The modem should not be reconigzed by the system! Good luck.
