Tomcat installation

Hi, I am new to Linux.
I am trying to install tomcat (apache-tomcat-6.0.24) on a Redhat machine.
Post installation, I find the url: http://localhost:8080/ working fine untill I click on 'Tomcat Manager' where it gives me the following message:
Failed to Connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost:8080.
Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.

* Could the site be temporarily unavailable? Try again later.
* Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
* Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

And also to mention, when I run the command ./configure from /tomcat/bin/jsvc-src, I find the following message:
*** Current host ***
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking cached host system type... ok
*** C-Language compilation tools ***
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl... no
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
See `config.log' for more details.

Please let me know how to proceed on the same.

Thanks and regards,
Pavanish

Hey, the problem pertaining to the initially mentioned query stating tomcat not functioning further to the tomcat home page is resolved. It was a minor mismatch in the criteria specification in the /init.d/tomcat file.
Thanks
