to view share trading from a bank website using compatible browser
 

While using ms winxp I can only view share trading from a bank web site with internet explorer 7. When using openSuse10.2 I can not find a browser that can view share trading from the bank web site. Is there a browser from
linux os that can view share trading from the bank web site or do I have to
upgrade my browser. If so, how ?

What browsers have you used? Have you tried changing your user agent settings to another browser identification?

does your Linux have Firefox? if it doesnt allow it, i think that's a mighty strange situation.
the only thing I can think of is that you have to have Java enabled in your browser, if the site is using it, otherwise - complain to the bank!

For konqueror : Settings -> Configure konqueror, scroll down to "Browser Identification". Then enter "Site specific identification"
Set it up so it says "I am IE6 on Win XP" when at your bank's site.

And complain to your bank.

It seems to be that its the bank policy to have only a particular browser for its share trading viewing and trading. So its of no use to do setting in any of the browsers like opera, konqueror and firefox3.1 even with java/script enabled that I use with suse10.2.

well your bank is a douche.

I hate websites that do that... guess it's time to find a new bank.

You can install Internet Explorer on linux using WINE. This will get around this annoying problem - what a stupid bank.

After installing IEs4Linux, I am able to run ie6 on openSuse10.2.
I opened a web page for Online Share and Trading from a bank web site,
it opened fine after downloading some add-ons from the bank. But when
trying to view share and trading on the stock market, I could only see
little small incomplete rectangles filling only a third of the Share and Trading page.
Hope someone can find an answer to this problem.

How are they going to determine if you are really using IE if you modify the user agent that your browser idenifies itself as?
There is a firefox add-on called "User Agent Switcher" - likewise the solution from tredegar should work - the browser can then identify itself easily as anything you want and makes your bank happy.
Did you try that?

- its possible to do without that extension, but not as conveniently - and with other browsers such as Konqueror, Opera, other Mozilla browsers...I think with all browsers.

Imagine if I phoned my a mechanic and said "I was driving my car. My car had a problem. Please tell me what is wrong with my car." The reason the mechanic wouldn't be able to tell me what is wrong with me car is the same reason no one's going to be able to tell you how to solve your problem - not enough information. You haven't even supplied the url of the web page you are having trouble with so other people can try it.

Can you not access the page in any web browser that runs natively under Linux? I'll also suggest trying using the user agent switcher extension for Firefox if you have trouble accessing the page - sometimes if a web site is badly written and doesn't work in Firefox it can be persuaded to work in Firefox if you just get Firefox to tell the site that it is Internet Explorer. (And if it does then work then it really is badly written!)

You should realise that running IE 6 under Linux really more a 'hey look what can be done' thing than something that should be relied upon for your web browsing needs. IE6 is not supposed to run under Linux, that it can be made to at all is really quite impressive. Don't expect that it will work exactly as it does when it's running under Windows.

Why use IE? Use Opera.

It's a very common problem with many businesses, not just banks. You can't just switch the identity as suggested:

BTW, I'd think the incomplete rectangles are just "not" downloaded images, probably a browser/firewall setting thing, but that's just a guess

The most reliable fix is to complain to whichever business/organisation that insists on supporting only IE.

Compromising will only help them retain that dominance!
