To-install-fedora-core-1-along-with-win98.
Hello everyone,
I am an absolute newbie to Linux. I have a PC with 176MB Ram and 9.7GB HDD with an Intel Celeron running Windows 98. I alos have the Fedora core-1 CD's with me.Can you guys tell me how to install this on my system. I don't want to lose the windows 98 as I've some important files in word docs. I tried installing it but at the partitioning phase I couldn't go forward -- actually everything that came up went above my head. How do I partition the HDD (already has two win98 partitions C: and D:) and then how shld I proceed. Please do help me in this regard. I want to be a serious Linux user. The first step is to back up any and all important data.
How big is your d drive? If your d drive is half the total that should be enough disk space. A default install will be about 2.2GB so if your d drive is a least 4 GB the easiest solution would be to copy or archive everything on your d drive to the c or CDRs. Then delete the d drive partition because the default install creates 3 partitions. You can then select the default install using unallocated space. Even though this isn't the docs for FC1 the basic install procedure is the same as RH9. http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...install-guide/ |
