To configure network on my box

I have recently installed redhat 9.0 on my box which has windows xp. When I swap to windows I am able to see my LAN and browse the internet.

But when in linux, I am not able to go on my LAN. My network interficae reads "Inactive" with error message as "Cannot activate network device eth1:1".

I will very much appreciate directions to help me.

Thank you in advance.

How new is the machine? Red Hat 9.0 is pretty old. If you like RH operating systems, try installing a newer version of Fedora (8.0, I think) or CentOS (5.0, I think).
